July 5, 2015

Yesterday went pretty well. Cameron and I slept in since we stayed with Tyson all night long. Suprisingly the hospital couch is not very comfortable... but in the afternoon we went back to the hospital where we learned that Tysons new sleeping medication would be bumped up since it didn't have much of an effect the night before.

Right before we got back Grandma Kim decided that there wasn't enough excitement going on so she pulled out Tyson's G tube. Just kidding it was an accident but we definatly gave her a hard time about it. The nurses helped get the emergency tube in and then some sergions came and placed a new one here in his room. Because it hasn't been 6 weeks since his sergery we had to go down and get an x ray to double check the placement. Normally in the future if that happens I can just replace the g tube myself and check that it is in the right place by seeing if stomach juices come out. Because the g tube came out we couldn't give him meds for a few hours and he did suprisingly well by still sleeping and not storming too much.

Latter in the evening Cameron and I went up to the balcony at the hospital to look over the valley to watch the fireworks as Tyson's nurse and tech stayed in his room while he slept. There were several other families and patients up there as well. It was fun to see the excitement that they had even though every single person there is going through a difficult time. There was probably 50 or so different firework shows that we could see from our view point all across the valley.

After we got back we were with Tyson and as the nurse was doing his vitals we found out that his blood pressure was like 77/29 which is pretty low. It wasn't low enough where we were trying to wake him up but it got any lower we would have. Normal baby blood pressure is around 90/60 and Tyson has been really high recently so bringing it down has been one of the goals with all of the medication that he is currently on. We kept takin his blood pressure every 30 minutes and over the next 2 or 3 hours it came back to normal levels. We kept the doctors informed and we held a few of his medications that could potentially lower his blood pressure even more. The doctors thing that the higher dose of the sleeping medication is to blame so on Sunday morning they decided to bring the level of that med down a little bit. Before they give him any medication that is supposed to bring his heart rate and blood pressure down we are double checking his numbers and if they are too low we don't give it to him.

On one hand it was scary to see it pretty low but on the other hand it means we are making g progress on bringing down his heart rate and blood pressure. It's just a lot of fine tuning of the medications to figure out the perfect balance for Tyson and the symptoms he is having. Overall his heart rate has also come down when he is awake and he isn't storming as much as he used to. There is still room for improvement but we are making progress.

On Sunday night the doctors decided that it would be better to hold off on the MRI that was originally scheduled for Monday. They were worried that the sudation median that they use for the MRI could cause his blood pressure to go too high or too low. Right now he is still having both extremes a lot. The MRI is more of a spot check and it can be pushed back until later in the week when he is hopefully more stable.

Cameron and I were able to go on a little date Sunday night before he left to go back to Idaho which was really fun. My mom stayed with Tyson the whole night so I was able to catch up on some much needed sleep.
